Created by a table of Indigenous advisors, TMSII programs have been successfully delivered over the past 20 years. TMSII works collaboratively with all interested youth/family agencies within each community so as to ensure implementation of a “Made For YOU WITH You” program!
The True North Wellness Camps are designed to exercise both “the body and soul” of the participants through daily programming. The components of the programming include:
with participation from professional, collegiate and trained athletes and officials from across North America.
Migrating Risks in the community.
These 'Thrills and Skills Programs' are based on the teaching and philosophy of Dr. Arnold Goldsteins Lifeskills Programs:
In addition workshops on Drugs and Alcohol Prevention and Awareness and Criminal Activities
Involve an evening session with caregivers and parents in discussion with a Parenting Specialist and local Youth Protection workers where possible, to highlight parental rights and responsibilities
The TMSII Sports Camps are conducted over a 4-5 day period, structured around hockey, basketball, football, lacrosse and soccer. Skilled, dynamic leadership is provided by peer counsellors, social workers, dedicated volunteers, coaches, subject matter experts, sports heroes and role models who work together to inspire, engage and uplift the youth campers.
TMSII have secured a number of valuable partnerships with high-profile sports professionals. Leveraging the knowledge of these elite athletes, clinics and workshops are developed to maximize the camp experience and increase the lessons-learned. Coaching clinics are also available that feature tools, methods and mentoring techniques that are currently in-use with proven coaches from their respective sports. This increases the knowledge and capabilities of participants, allowing them to bring the message and methods back to share with their community.
High-Performance training sessions for elite athletes and coaches. A combination of classroom and hands-on learning is required to fully round-out the experience. Nutritional balance, how to avoid drugs and alcohol, the value of conditioning and training to the athlete and sports psychology are all addressed in the classroom, followed by extensive sport-specific training on the courts, ice surfaces and fields to provide elite Indigenous athletes with all the experience they need to reach their goals and maintain their focus.
TMSII can be booked to facilitate these camps within specific communities, as well TMSII will be organizing (2) 1 week sessions in Ottawa where an exclusive camp will be offered to 100 identified/sponsored Indigenous athletes (aged 12-15 – male and female). Each week these athletes will be exposed to the very best training in the country in their respective sport. Similar to the standard TNW camps the mornings will include conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology and other social topics that are key for Indigenous youth. In the afternoon each athlete will then go to the fields, courts, rinks and receive training from some of the top names in sports.
